Jingle & Glow Co installs outdoor and landscape lighting on homes across Hamilton County, Indiana, and it is work we do all year rather than only in December.
Landscape lighting is a different craft from holiday lighting and the difference is aiming. A tree that is uplit from two sides at the right angle looks like a tree at night. The same tree with one fixture pointed straight up looks like a flashlight. So we walk the property at dusk before anything is specified, stand where you actually see the house from, and work out what is worth lighting and what is better left dark.
The practical value shows up on the parts of a property people use. A path that is lit low along its edge is walkable in December when it is dark at five. A drive with the beds lit is easier to back out of. And the front of a house in an HOA neighborhood with mature trees looks considerably better from the street lit than it does under a single porch fixture.

What outdoor lighting covers
Tree lighting
Uplighting for mature trees, and full trunk and limb wraps where you want the tree itself to be the light rather than the thing being lit.
Beds and planting
Low fixtures washing the planting beds along the front of the house, which is what stops a lit facade looking like it is floating.
Paths and steps
Low, shielded light along walkways and at every change of level, aimed down at the surface rather than out at the eye.
The face of the house
Stone, brick and architectural detail lit from the ground, with the fixtures placed where you do not see them from the sidewalk.
Drives and entrances
The approach, the turn and the parking area, so the last thirty feet of getting home are not the darkest.

How an outdoor lighting job runs
A walk at dusk
We come at the hour the lighting will actually be seen, and we walk the property with you rather than around it.
What gets lit
We agree the pieces worth lighting. Some trees are worth it and some are not, and saying so is part of the job.
The design and the number
Fixture positions, aiming and the price, presented at your house.
Install
Fixtures set, wire buried, everything aimed after dark on the same visit, because aiming in daylight is guessing.
Re aiming
Planting grows into the light over a few seasons, so re aiming is part of the conversation rather than a separate job.

Questions about this work
Is outdoor lighting only for the holidays?
No. Landscape lighting is permanent work and it runs every night of the year. Holiday lighting goes up in November and comes down in January.
Plenty of houses in Hamilton County have both, and they are designed together so the December display sits on top of the year round lighting rather than fighting it.
Will the lighting bother my neighbors?
It should not, and that is a design question rather than an equipment question. Fixtures are shielded, aimed away from sight lines and set at the lowest output that does the job.
In an HOA neighborhood where houses sit close together this matters, so we check the aim from the sidewalk and from the neighboring drive before we call it finished.
How long does landscape lighting last?
The fixtures are built for permanent outdoor use and the wire is buried, so the system is not something you take down. Lamps are replaced as they age.
The part that changes is the planting. Beds grow into the light over a few seasons, which is why re aiming is worth planning for.
Can you light a tree without wrapping it?
Yes, and for most mature trees uplighting from the ground is the better answer. Two fixtures placed off center give a tree shape and shadow.
Wrapping the trunk and limbs is a different look and it is worth doing on a specimen tree in the front yard where the tree is the feature.
